March 22, 2011 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently announced the members of its 27 Commissions. Among those individuals on the 2011 list is Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut. Newly named to a commission, Aubut, who only took over as President in April 2010, will sit among other elite Olympic representatives on the International Relations Commission.
“I am honored to join fellow leaders of the Olympic family in working to further strengthen and grow the Olympic Movement,” said Aubut. “The International Relations Commission is an excellent forum for Canada to develop a great network of relationships and benefit from shared learnings and a strong partnership with the IOC.”
“Marcel has come onto the scene and quickly made his mark in the Olympic arena, clearly representing the COC’s new strategic vision to be ever more present in the international landscape,” stated COC CEO and Secretary General Jean R. Dupré.
Aubut joins other members of the COC Board of Directors making significant contributions to the Olympic Movement:
– Richard W. Pound: IOC member, IOC Juridical Commission, IOC Marketing Commission, IOC representative on the board of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Foundation, member of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport and chairman of its Strategic Planning Committee;
– Michael Chambers: Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) Executive Committee member, president of PASO’s Legislative Commission, Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Executive Council member and president of the ANOC Juridical Commission
– Charmaine Crooks: IOC Athletes’ Commission, IOC Press Commission; vice president of the World Olympians Association,
– Beckie Scott: IOC member, IOC Athletes’ Commission, IOC Ethics Commission, IOC Coordination Commission Sochi 2014 & Innsbruck 2012;
– Walter Sieber: IOC Olympic Programme Commission.
