Classique Montréal-Québec – Papillon Wins – Full Results

August 10, 2008 – Arnaud Papillon (Team VW) scored the win today at the 229.5km Classique Montréal-Québec over Dominique Perras (EVA-Devinci) in 2nd and Bruno Langlois (Team VW) in 3rd as Louis Garneau Sports celebrated its 25th anniversary and Garneau himself turned 50 this year as well.

Ending on a Good Note
The Montreal-Quebec road race had special significance for Team EVA Devinci this year, as Dominique Perras announced that it would be his final race before retiring from competition. Perras has had a long and successful career, which saw him race in the pro peloton in Europe and also around the world. He has now decided to move on to another chapter in his life. Since this was his final race, he was very motivated to try to score one last victory.

The racers were greeted by a steady head wind on their way to Quebec. That, coupled with a relatively easy course, made the race very nervous and hard to read. When things started shaking down, EVA looked to be in good position with Perras and Mathieu Toulouse in a move that looked like it was going to go all the way. Unfortunately, Toulouse flatted out of contention.

Volkswagen’s Éric Boily attacked and Perras went along with him. The pair worked well together, until Boily himself fell victim to a puncture. Perras looked like he was sailing in for a solo win, but Arnaud Papillon, also with Volkswagen, caught him with a few kilometers to go and out-sprinted him to take top honors.

EVA Devinci would like to thank Dominique for his involvement with the team this year and congratulate him on his final great result. We also wish him the best of luck in his next endeavor: Dominique is signed up for an MBA program at HEC Montreal, which begins in a few days.
