May 19, 2011 (Gatineau, QC) – With the top riders still to come here’s a brief update from the 17.35km women’s UCI-sanctioned Chrono Gatineau. Lesla Kalitovska (Ukr) Team Ukraine is in the hot seat followed by Edwige Pitel (Vienne-Futuroscope) from France with Svitlana Galyuk also from the Ukraine with the 3rd fastest time. Canada’s Véronique Labonte (Juvederm-Specialized) is the top Canuck in 7th overall.
Each country has had two riders off in the first two waves – 23 of 36 riders – with final wave starting at 1pm – start list here.
The latest update is that Canada’s Clara Hughes was on course with the fastest intermediate time but at the turnaround her rear wheel slid out and she crashed.
Hughes was ok and was back on the bike in short order to post the fastest time (unofficially) for the win.
