December 6, 2005 – Luxembourg’s Charly Gaul, a prolific climber in both the Tour de France and the Tour of Italy, passed away today, at 72. Gaul died of complications from a fall he sustained in Itzing, Luxembourg.
Gaul won the Tour of Italy twice – in 1956 and 1959, and the Tour de France once, in 1958. He leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
