January 30, 2008 (Montreal, QC) – The Federation Québécoise des sports cyclistes (FQSC) is proud to announce the nomination of Chantale Philie as Paracycling Coordinator with the UCI. Philie, who has served as the technical director for BMX and paracycling with the FQSC since 2005, will leave on February 29 to assume her new position.
During the past three years, Philie played a pivotal role in the development of the BMX in Quebec. This discipline will become part of the official Olympic Games program for the first time this summer in Beijing. BMX will also be part of the Quebec Games in 2010, taking place in Gatineau. The inclusion of BMX cycling in these events has been recognized in Quebec where the BMX is undergoing a period of rapid growth.
Apart from her duties as technical director of paracycling at the FQSC, Philie has been involved for many years both at the national and international level. She served as manager for the national team on certain projects, such as international classification, and has also served as a member of many committees, allowing her to acquire a vast array of experience and knowledge. She is an ideal candidate for the UCI where her arrival coincides with a major reform of the international calendar of events.
“I am thrilled with the idea of joining the UCI and to have an opportunity to contribute to paracycling on an international level. I am convinced that my time working with cycling and with handicapped athletes will help me to carry out my new role,” said Philie. “I sincerely thank the FQSC which allowed me to get involved in this sport. In the course of my work, I have met some extraordinary people and their support has nourished my passion for cycling.”
Philie previously worked for four years as a coordinator at the Quebec Association of Wheelchair Sports where she was responsible for hand cycling.
