Cervélo TestTeam Welcomes Castelli as a New Sponsor

November 13, 2006 (Ebikon, Switzerland) – Cervélo TestTeam is pleased to announce that Castelli has become a sponsor of the team. “Castelli is very excited to become a partner of the Cervélo TestTeam and will provide technical race clothing to the men’s and women’s race teams,” said Steve Smith, Director of Marketing, Castelli.

“Clothing for us is not decorative, it is equipment. And we are constantly developing the most technologically advanced solutions to make cyclists faster, lighter, more aerodynamic, and more comfortable. With Castelli’s pioneering development in the lightest and most aerodynamic clothing in the professional peloton, the Cervélo TestTeam members will have an advantage in their clothing as they have in the rest of their equipment. Castelli is committed to no doping, and we feel that this team shares our dream of seeing cycling cleaned from this scourge.”

Castelli will also be using the team to develop and test new and innovative clothing solutions to improve performance. Proven champions like Carlos Sastre and Thor Hushovd, and the up and coming riders, will be testing further developments in aerodynamic clothing, ultra lightweight race clothing, and innovative solutions to protect the riders in inclement conditions.

“We are very excited and honored to have Castelli as a partner in Cervelo TestTeam,” said Gerard Vroomen co-founder of Cervélo. “They have a rich history, but also focus on product innovation. In fact, they beat us to the TestTeam concept by over 50 years when they provided the legendary Fausto Coppi (a personal favorite of mine) with revolutionary silk jerseys to wear in his time trials.”

About Castelli
Castelli has always represented the finest in Italian quality and performance cycling clothing. Castelli traces its roots back to a fine tailor (Vittore Gianni) in the heart of Milan, founded in 1876. The first cycling clothing was made in the 1910s for world champion Alfredo Binda then later Fausto Coppi and many of the stars through cycling’s golden age.

The Castelli brand has introduced a series of firsts in cycling clothing: the first Lycra shorts used in racing and sold to the public, the first colored shorts, the first sublimation printed jerseys, the first synthetic winter clothing, the first use of windproof membranes, the first hydrophylic fabric treatments, the first anatomic seatpad, the lightest jersey ever produced, and the most aerodynamic jersey ever produced.

Today Maurizio Castelli’s vision is the driving force in the company: to create the most innovative clothing for the cyclist seeking maximum performance. Castelli, based in northeastern Italy, is sold in 39 countries throughout the world.
