Cervelo Apparel helps out Peaceful Tribe Fundraising

February 10 2005 — Cervelo Cycles Inc. is pleased to announce their participation in Peaceful Tribe’s fund raising initiative in support of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF).

Peaceful Tribe is an Internet based online collective connected by the members’ common interest in cycling and the sport of triathlon. This ad hoc group communicates via www.slowtwitch.com, an online resource and forum for the cycling industry and cycling enthusiasts.

An appeal to raise money for a charity in early January by forum participant Stephen Perera, a graphic artist from Gibraltar, met with a positive and enthusiastic response from the forum’s worldwide membership.

According to Heather Travis, Product Developer, Apparel, Cervelo Cycles, “it was then that the whole thing started to snowball. Forum members cast a vote online as to which charity Peaceful Tribe would support. Challenged Athletes Foundation, www.challengedathletes.org which has international ties and is athlete-centric was voted the beneficiary.”

“We are extremely honored and appreciative at the generosity and benevolence of the Peaceful Tribe initiative,” said Virginia Tinley Executive Director, CAF. “The money they raise will be used to provide the funding for one or more of our athlete grants.”

It was decided that selling Peaceful Tribe merchandise would be the most effective method to raise funds for CAF online. As the initiative began to take shape Cervélo’s Gerard Vroomen, himself a Peaceful Tribe member, encouraged Mrs. Travis to tender a quote to manufacture the apparel.

The Peaceful Tribe members voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Cervelo apparel and as a result three pieces of Cervelo apparel customized for the Peaceful Tribe are now for sale. Those interested have the choice of the After Dark Tech-T, Before Sunrise Long Sleeve Tech-T and the LCS Singlet, all of which are from the 2005 Cervélo Apparel collection. One hundred percent of the profits from the sale of the three Peaceful Tribe logoed items will go to the charity. Cervelo will not make a dime (in fact, they will lose a few bucks just to make sure).

As well as the three Cervelo Apparel items, hat manufacturer Headsweats has added a race hat to the mix of fundraising items. As with the clothing, one hundred percent of the profits will go directly to the CAF. “Headsweats has long been a supporter of the CAF,” said Alan Romick, President, Headsweats, “and I welcomed the opportunity to do so again, especially with the enthusiasm of the Peaceful Tribe and Cervelo behind the fundraising efforts.”

To give the fundraising drive a head start, Mr. Vroomen has personally purchased the first LCS Singlet for $500. The Peaceful Tribe gear will be available just in time for race season at the beginning of April. The apparel and all the details are available at www.cervelo.com/tribe. Peaceful Tribe’s fund raising objective is to sell-out the four items, which would net CAF approximately $10,000.
