October 16, 2003 (Las Vegas, Nevada) – Cervelo Cycles Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of Cervelo Apparel, a new line of cycling and triathlon apparel for the demanding athlete. The announcement was made today at Interbike, staged October 12-14 in Las Vegas, by Cervelo founders Gerard Vroomen and Phil White.
“As part of our job we interact with athletes, both professionals and enthusiasts, on a daily basis.” Says Vroomen. “Our focus was always to receive feedback on our bikes, but more and more people started asking us to make other products as well. Apparel was one area where a lot of people indicated they would like to see Cervelo take it to the next level. Just like with our bikes, the apparel line will be very focused with a lot of attention to detail and function.”
Vroomen and White, well known in the industry for their innovative Cervelo bike designs, ensured the apparel line maintained a narrow focus similar to their bike line. “It is all about fit, function and fast,” elaborates White. “We didn't want to make just another jersey, we wanted to make sure the designs were technically advanced. So with the help of our friend Ralph Dunning, well known in triathlon and cycling for the Rip n Hammer brand he started a decade ago, we put a lot of effort into fabric technology. We also came up with a few revolutionary pieces, such as the Time Trial Top. This top offers the wearer the aerodynamic advantages of a time trial suit, but it can be combined with any standard cycling short. It's tough to find a time trial suit that fits well in length and width, and the time trial top solves that problem. There are more special pieces in the pipeline for the future.”
The color schemes of Cervelo's apparel line will match its past and current bike colors, making the apparel especially attractive for Cervelo bike owners. Retail pricing will be competitive, especially considering the quality offered.
