September 24, 2003 – Andre St. Pierre junior, co-owner of the boutique Centre du Velo in Mascouche, a suburb northeast of Montreal, was killed cycling Sept. 18. The 38-year-old triathlete was considered a prudent cyclist but was struck by a delivery truck in Terrebonne, Quebec. Newspaper accounts suggest that the driver was momentarily distracted on a road where the speed limit is 80 km/h and that police may not lay any charges. Also killed in the same accident was Jean-Guy Michaud, a friend who was cycling with St. Pierre.

Left in mourning are St. Pierre's widow, Marie-Claire Demers and two children, Thomas and Aleck, parents Joan and Andre, sister Johanne, and brothers Christian and Paul. A notice on the Centre du Velo's website (www.centreduvelo.com) requested those attending his Sept. 21 funeral to wear a cycling jersey. The website also requested that, instead of flowers, donations be sent to a charity for autistic children because Aleck suffers from this disorder.
