CCES Undergoes Organizational Changes

release by the CCES

June 10, 2010 (Ottawa, Ontario) –The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) is pleased to announce that it has undergone an organizational redesign intended to support the Canadian sport community from sand-lot to podium. The CCES reorganization was stimulated by several factors:

– the evolving priorities of the Canadian sport community;
– the growth of the True Sport Movement and the desire by communities across the country to provide a sport system embedded with the True Sport values;
– a more integrated approach to fostering ethical sport for all Canadians;
– the recent changes to the World Anti-Doping Code and Canadian Anti-Doping Program;
– CCES’ desire to be more proactive in our external leadership around ethical issues in sport;
– the need to be more focused on revenue generation from corporate and private sector; and
– staff returning from a three-year secondment to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

CCES undertook an externally facilitated review to develop a common approach for organizational design and to enhance its ability to deliver on the mission and vision.

The key adjustments to the CCES organizational structure include:

– the introduction of a Chief Operating Officer position;
– separating the strategic communications functions (public affairs, media relations) from the technical and operational communications support;
– the establishment of an Executive Bureau to house the executive positions and functional expertise;
– the consolidation of the internal operational functions;
– the creation of a stream focused on the Canadian Anti-Doping Program and business development; and
– the grouping of all programs that support sport and athletes within True Sport Operations.

The outcome is a newly integrated structure designed to support athletes, administrators, athlete support personnel and the Canadian public.

The CCES staff complement has grown slightly as some new positions have been added. It includes most of the team who designed and managed the successful anti-doping program for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, “the cleanest games ever.” A complete list of staff is available on the CCES website at www.cces.ca/staff.

The CCES is an independent, national, non-profit organization. Our mission, to foster ethical sport for all Canadians, is carried out through research, promotion, education, detection and deterrence, as well as through programs and partnerships with other organizations.
