June 1, 2004 – Our Canadians had a successful 2004 Track World
Championships this past week as two of our women took home medals. Lori-Ann
Muenzer took home the bronze in the Women’s Sprint while Mandy Poitras took
home the silver in the Women’s Scratch race. The medals mark the first time
a Canadian has had a podium finish since Muenzer’s two medals back at the
2001 Track World Championships. Poitras is also the first Canadian to win a
Track World Championship medal other than Muenzer since 1999, when Tanya
Dubnicoff took home the bronze medal in the Women’s Sprint.

Due to Canada’s successful showing at the 2004 Track World Championships,
the UCI announced today that Canada has been allocated 1 spot in the
Women’s 500m Time-Trial and 1 spot in the Women’s Sprint at the upcoming
2004 Olympic Games.
