October 27, 2009 (Los Angeles, CA) – The Canadian Track Athletes training in LA at the end of October were introduced to several new training and recovery tools, including hydrotherapy pools, a new fast and furious electric bike (watch the motor-pacing , and video analysis. The athletes vying for a team pursuit spot for the third and fourth World Cups have greatly benefited from being able to compare themselves to the World Elite Teams.
The cyclists worked on their position on the bike, relaxing in the group, where to be looking, and team exchanges. The video is a useful tool for analyzing and improving the technical aspects, such as spacing between riders, exchange positioning and start technique. Video analysis between efforts was really beneficial as it provided concrete reinforcement to the mistakes made, and a clear visual of how one can correct it in the next effort.
Adam Thuss found it hard, at first, to watch himself on the “big screen” as the video was projected on to a wall, but found that “it is a very quick way to visualize what needs to be done to improve the technical aspects … I think it has been a great addition and I think it would continue to be helpful through the rest of the year.”
