CCA Mourns the Death of Young Cyclist Alexandre Morin

February 22, 2007 – The Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) is mourning the death of promising young cyclist Alexandre Morin, 16, of Québec City, who would have died of hypothermia, following the snow storm which hit his home city last week.

“According to the numerous testimonies from the people who knew him quite well, I know that Alexandre was a true model to his friends and family. It is really tough to have to admit the loss of a young boy like him, and it reminds us of the recent death of our friend and cyclist Robert Brisson. Let’s continue to pursue our dreams and work hard to achieve them, because it is worth it and it is certainly what Alexandre would be doing,” said Vincent Jourdain, CCA National Road Coach.

Attempts to find Alexandre had created a flow of solidarity and sympathy from numerous Québec City and area residents, when his body was finally found on Saturday February 17. The causes and circumstances of his death will be clarified following a complete investigation report which will be produced within a couple of months.

The CCA wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to the members of the Morin family and relatives, classmates and friends of Alexandre. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 24th in Sillery (QC).
