September 26, 2003 – The Canadian Cycling Association is pleased to announce the Espoir men that will represent Canada at the upcoming Road World Championships in Hamilton, ON, October 7-12, 2003. In the Espoir road race, reserved for those riders aged 19-22, Martin Gilbert, 21, of Chateauguay, QC was automatically selected to the team due to his win in the road race at the National Championships in June. Gilbert has had a busy summer with the National Team, representing Canada at the Track World Championships in Stuttgart, GER and at the Pan Am Games, in Santo Domingo, DOM.

Joining Gilbert in the road race will be Cameron Evans, 19, of Delta, BC, Chris Isaac, 21, of Newmarket, ON, Cory Jay, 21, of Charlottetown, PEI and Jean-Sebastien Maheu, 20, of Montreal, QC.

In the time trial event, Dominique Rollin, 21, from Boucherville, QC was automatically confirmed for this event after winning the time trial event at the National Championships in June.  Chris Isaac has been named as the second Canadian to compete in this event.

All six riders are in Europe completing their pre-worlds preparation.  The team will participate in local races in France on September 27 and 28, before returning to Canada on September 29.  The team will then meet up in the Hamilton area on October 4 and will participate in the Nella – Cramaro World Cycling Grand Prix on October 5 in Pelham, ON.

The Espoir time trial is scheduled for October 7, while the road race is scheduled for October 10.
