CCA Announces Junior Track and Road Worlds Team

July 12, 2005 – The Canadian Cycling Association is proud to announce the names of the athletes who will represent Canada at the junior track and road world championships, which will take place in Austria, from August 7 to 14.

Selection was difficult this year due to the large number of competitive athletes and the limited number of available spots, particularly on the men’s side. But we are confident that we have chosen the best team to represent Canada at the worlds.

Three athletes will compete in the track events at the Ferry Dusika Hallenstadion in Vienna:

Laurence Leroux (Quebec) — men’s sprint
Eric Smith (Alberta) — men’s endurance
Naomi Cooper (BC) — women’s endurance

Six athletes will compete in the road events in Oberwart:

Joëlle Numainville (Quebec) — women’s time trial and road race
Karol-Ann Canuel (Quebec) — women’s time trial and road race
Naomi Cooper (BC) — women’s road race

Eric Boily (Quebec) — men’s road race
Mark Hinnen (Ontario) — men’s road race and time trial
David Veilleux (Quebec) — men’s road race and time trial
Alternate: Brooke Boocock (Ontario)
Alternate: Ryan Anderson (Alberta)

To prepare for worlds, the women’s road team will be competing together in BC Superweek. Bill Holden will manage the team.

The men’s team and alternates will compete in the Tour de l’Abitibi, along with Clovis Auger (Quebec). The CCA has nominated two additional alternates for the Abitibi team: Andrew Nichol (Manitoba) and Neal Kindree (BC). Jacky Hardy will be manager.

Congratulations to all the athletes.
