January 21, 2017 (Toronto, ON) – The Cannondale-3 Rox Team launch on Friday, Jan. 20, at the new Gears Bike Shop in the Canary District of Toronto was a great success as fans and supporters shared a glass and superb food with Redline Brewhouse beer flowing as “Coach Brendi” Arnold held court as MC for the evening – check out the video below.
The launch heralded a new chapter for the team as Cannondale takes over as title sponsor with Raphael Gagne and Keegan Swenson, both with last year’s Cannondale 360fly powered by Sugoi, joining Erin Huck and Derek Zandstra.
Arnold introduced the new team asking what each member’s best “huck” was last year. Gagne recalled getting the holeshot at the CX Nationals only to slide out in one of the first corners, “It went downhill from there,” he added. Huck herself recalled a special moment during the US xc nationals at Mammoth Mountain, which she won, when team manager Kyle Douglas ran up the mountain to give her a split time but was completely out of breath when he reached and could barely talk.Swenson, still a U23 rider, was second on the Elite Men’s USA MTB Nationals podium in 2016 and it looking forward to kicking up the dust on the World Cup circuit this season.
Veteran Zandstra, who has been with the team since its inception, was introduced as the future mayor of Trenton and assistant manager at Giant Tiger. Zandstra is aiming to defend his MTB national title while moving up the ladder on the World Cup. Douglas spoke of the great support the team has from all sponsors and the passion behind the squad including mechanics Gersham Morris and Scott Kelly. He welcomed their Maverix Racing development squad to the stage including returning riders Liam Mulcahy, Jan Kocemba and Malcolm Barton and new members Owen Flood, Tyler Orschel and Dana Gilligan. All are stoked to be a part of the legendary 3Rox family and to “kick butt” in 2017 – check out our video interview with them tomorrow.
