August 26, 2003 – Canadians once again fared rather well in the 2003 NORBA National Championship Mountain Bike Series.The American-based circuit concluded in mid-August with the series finale in Durango, Colo. Canada's Ryder Hesjedal (Gary Fisher-Subaru) won the men's overall cross-country division. Hesjedal, who previously won two other events this season, captured the overall crown, as he also placed first in the series finale in Durango.

Another Canadian named an overall series champion was Seamus McGrath (Haro-Lee Dungarees), who won the short-track cross-country division.

Argentina's Jimena Florit (RLX Ralph Lauren) won the overall women's cross-country division, while American Sue Haywood (Trek-Volkswagen) was crowned the overall women's short-track cross-country champion.

Other overall NORBA series champions were as follows: men's mountain cross, American Eric Carter (Mongoose-Hyundai); women's mountain cross, France's Sabrina Jonnier (Intense-Fox); men's downhill, South Africa's Greg Minnaar (Haro-Lee Dungarees); and women's downhill, Great Britain's Fionn Griffiths (Foes-Azonic). The top American finishers in all eight races in Durango were also crowned the U.S. national champions.

This year's NORBA circuit also provided a chance to see two of the most significant riders on the circuit during their swan songs. Both American Missy Giove (Foes-Azonic) and Australia's Mary Grigson (Gary Fisher-Subaru) announced their retirements at the end of the season.
