March 26, 2014 (Ottawa, ON) – After an intense off-season training block and a few early season competitions, the Canadian Mountain Bike Team is back on the competition trail as it continues its preparations for the upcoming season. The team, which is part of a growing and world-leading system, is headed for Barbacena, Brazil, where it will compete against some of the top mountain bikers from the Americas.
The team of nine Canadian athletes is highlighted by a mix of young emerging talent and proven, experienced athletes. Among the group are some contenders for medals including Raphael Gagné of Québec, QC, Mikaela Kofman of Toronto, ON and Frédérique Trudel of Breakeyville, QC (2013 U23 Canadian Champion), all of which have been medallist at the 2013 Continental Championships. Notably, reigning Canadian Champion Derek Zandstra of Trenton, ON will also be suiting up for Canada.
The Canadian contingent will be headed to these UCI Continental Championships with the objectives to gain international experience, earn precious points for world rankings, and prepare for the upcoming World Cup season and World Championships.
The competition starts on March 27, and runs through to March 30.
