May 19, 2006 –The Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) is pleased to announce the official opening of the Canadian Mountain Bike season this weekend with the Canada Cup hosted by Bromont (QC) on May 20 and 21.
The cross-country competition will be presented on Saturday, May 20 and the downhill event on Sunday, May 21. Both events will feature the Canada Cup and the Québec Cup in each discipline.
More than one thousand competitors, aged from 10 years to 65 years, will take part in L’Invitation Internationale Intersport de Bromont. This is the first competition of the cycling season in Canada, the second most important in North America, and over $25,000 in prizes will be given out during the weekend, said the event organizers based in the beautiful Eastern Townships region.
Top Canadian riders who confirmed their presence include: Raphael Gagné, two-time Canadian Champion, George Edouard Duquette, Mathieu Laurin and Marie-Claude Surprenant. International competitors such as New Zealand’s Mike Northcott will also be attending.
A twelve-hour endurance race will also take place from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. The “ENDURO HYDRAPAK DE BROMONT” to determine which individuals or teams are able to complete the greatest number of laps on a 6km mountain bike course carved out of Bromont’s legendary terrain.

– Canada Cup and Québec Cup cross-country presented by TIME, starting at 8:30am. 12:00pm : Elite riders. 4 :00pm: Sport categories.
Sunday, May 21
– Canada Cup and Québec Cup downhill presented by ROCK SHOX, starting at 9:00am.
– 10:00 am to 10:00 pm: “Enduro HYDRAPAK de Bromont”.
