September 10, 2003 – The Canadian Cycling Association is pleased to announce the junior men and junior women that will represent Canada in the road race at the upcoming Road World Championships in Hamilton, Ontario, October 7-12, 2003.

In the junior men's category, at the 2003 Road National Championships, Raphael Tremblay and Kevin Lacombe earned their way onto the Road Worlds team by winning the national titles.  Tremblay, 17, from Lac St. Jean, QC, won the road race in Pelham, ON while Lacombe, 18, from Amos, QC won the time trial event in Hamilton.

Joining these two in Hamilton will be Brandon Crichton, 18, from Burlington, ON and Christian Meier, 18, from Sussex, NB.  These two riders were selected to the team following a post-Abitibi training camp that was held in Bromont, QC.

All four riders, along with first alternate, Bradley Fairall, 18, from North Vancouver, BC, are in Europe preparing for the Worlds. The team will participate in the Grand Prix Ruebliland in Swizterland from September 12-14 and the Giro di Basilicata in Italy from September 18-21. The team will then return to the Bromont Cycling Center for a final pre-worlds training camp before descending upon the Hamilton area to participate in the Nella – Cramaro World Cycling Grand Prix on October 5.

Lacombe will also participate in the time trial event at the World Championships.  A second rider, from the three others selected to the road race, will be named at a later date.

The junior men's time trial is scheduled for October 8, while the junior men's road race is scheduled for October 11.

In the junior women's category, at the 2003 National Championships, Audrey Lemieux and Emilie Roy earned their way onto the Worlds team based on their strong performances at this event.

Lemieux, 18 from Alma, QC, won both the road race and the time trial titles at the National Championships earlier this summer. She also represented Canada at the 2003 Junior World Track Championships and at the 2002 Road World Championships where she placed 7th in the road race.

Roy, 18, from St. Cuthbert, QC, placed second to Lemieux in both the road race and the time trial at the National Championships earlier this summer.

Joining these two in Hamilton will be Emily Sandwith, 18, from Victoria, BC and Anna Tratnyek, 17, from New Hamburg, ON, who were selected to the team following their participation at the Green Mountain Stage Race, which was held in northern Vermont and a training camp that concluded this past weekend in Bromont, QC.

Lemieux will also participate in the time trial event at the World Championships. A second rider, from the three others selected to the road race, will be named at a later date.

The junior women's time trial is scheduled for October 7, while the junior women's road race is scheduled for October 10.
