March 29, 2003 (Hackettstown, NJ) – Yesterday's timed 90-minute plus 10 laps stage-3 criterium of the Solano Bicycle Classic was raced flat-out from the starter's whistle. The Saturn team took control early and was poised to protect the lead of yellow jersey leader Chris Horner. The 6-corner 9/10 -mile course was fast and smooth, and as the time wound down, the speed increased.

A number of breakaways established themselves as the yellow jersey was repeatedly attacked, but all of them were reeled back in by the Saturn and/or the Prime Alliance squad. It wasn't until an unprecedented attack by Chris Horner himself, did a break stick. He was soon joined by Jonathan Vaughters (Prime Alliance), 2nd on G.C., and several others. Within a couple of laps, 3rd on G.C. Ben Brooks (Jelly Belly) joined up with several more to make it a total of 17 away. The gap to the main bunch hovered at 20-seconds for most of the last 10 laps, but with 3-laps remaining, the field let the gap open up to 35, then 55-seconds.

In the sprint, it was Eric Wohlberg (Saturn) followed by Mark McCormack (Saturn) and Russel Hamby (Ofoto). For the Navigators squad it was a day of missed opportunity as they had no representation in the front group, but Marty Nothstein was able to win the field sprint from the main pack. There were no major changes to the overall standings.
