September 9, 2003 – The Canadian Cycling Association is extremely pleased to announce that Roland Green and Genevieve Jeanson have been respectively named to the Elite Men's and Elite Women's Road Time Trial team that will represent Canada at the upcoming Road World Championships, October 7-12, 2003 in Hamilton, ON. Automatically selected to the team were the 2003 National Road Time Trial Champions – Eric Wohlberg and Lyne Bessette.
Wohlberg, 38, from Levack, ON won his eighth consecutive National title this past June, finishing well ahead of his closest competitor on the course that will be used for the World Championships. Bessette, 28, from Lac Brome, QC, won the title for the second time in three years (2001 – Dieppe).
Green, 29, from Victoria, BC, is the two time MTB Cross Country World Champion and the defending Commonwealth Games MTB Cross Country Champion. He has represented Canada in each of the last two years at the Road World Championships in the time trial event, finishing 14th in Lisbon, POR in 2001 and 20th in Zolder, BEL in 2002. His performances at the 2003 Tour de Langkawi and 2003 Tour de Georgia, further confirmed that he can be a strong contender for Canada in this event.
Jeanson, 22, from Lachine, QC, finished second to Bessette at the 2003 National Championships. She participated at the World Championships last year in Zolder, BEL, finishing a very respectable 14th. Jeanson won the 2002 National Time Trial Championships.
The Elite Women's Time Trial event is scheduled for October 8th and the Elite Men's Time Trial event is scheduled for October 9th.
