September 02, 2012 (Leogang Austria) – Canada’s Steve Smith was in the hot seat until the last few riders, taking home the bronze on Saturday, as Greg Minnaar (South Africa) won gold besting Gee Atherton (Great Britain) who had eclipsed Smith’s stellar run. Smith, who missed the worlds last year due to injury, was hoping to better his silver from 2010 at MSA. It was Minnaar’s second title winning back in 2003.
