Commonwealth Games 2002 – MTB, XC

July 29, 2002 (Manchester, England) – A fantastic day for Canada, with World
Champion Roland Green taking the gold medal over compatriot Seamus McGrath,
and Chrissy Redden winning the women’s cross country over Kiwi Suzy Pryde.

Chrissy Redden took the lead on the first lap as one of her main rivals
Caroline Alexander (Scotland) flatted. Redden never looked back, although
ultimately her 1:30 minute margin over Pryde was only 16 seconds at the end.
Marie-Hélène Prémont (Canada) finished just out of the medals in fourth,
one spot
ahead of Kiara Bisaro (Canada) who finished fifth.

In the Men’s race, all bets were on Roland Green to take the race and he
delivered,
putting a minute on Seamus McGrath and another three
minutes on Liam Killeen (England). Geoff Kabush (Canada) had a solid ride,
finishing in 10th.
