Canada’s Roth Wins Stage 1 at Tour de Iskandar Johor and Burtnik Best Young Rider

April 17, 2019 (Malaysia) – Canada’s Ryan Roth (Xspeed United Continental) took home the win on the 122.9 km Stage 1 opener at the Tour de Iskandar Johor in Malaysia, Apr 17-21, while teammate and fellow Canuck, Evan Burtnik, was named Best Young Rider. A third Canadian in the mix Edward Walsh, also with Xspeed United Continental, finished 5th in the 100+ field.

Roth got into an early 3-rider break that stayed away and out-sprinted opponents Matthew Zenovich (St. Georg Continental Cycling Team) and Australian Benjamin Dyball (Team Sapura Cycling) for the win. Thursday marks the second stage of the 5-day stage race around southern Malaysia, where Roth and Burtnik will look to continue their success.
