Canada’s Pierrick Naud Wins Belgian Kermesse

by John Symon
March 31, 2013 (Amay, Belgium) – Pierrick Naud (Garneau-Québecor), currently racing in Europe for the Quebec U23 Road Team, won yesterday’s 110km Kermesse in Amay, Belgium. This fabulous result follows his recent 8th-place finish at a 120km-race in Beloeil.

“Pierrick did win the 110km race from a break of seven riders,” FQSC coach Pascal Choquette told Pedal. “The finish was uphill and he managed to position himself in 3rd position on the last corner about 500m from the finishline at the bottom of the hill. So he was in the best position for the sprint.

“The 110km race was on a 7.3km-circuit where cyclists had 15 laps to complete. About 90 cyclists were on the start line and it was cold – around zero degrees.”

“Saturday’s event was race 4 out of 6 for Team Québec and it is also a preparation race for the rider selections at the Coupe des Nations (June 7–9) for the National Team. It was a cold day without sun, but Pierrick make us smile today. Low temperatures make the race and also training harder for everyone. We need to pay extra attention on small details to make sure nobody gets sick.

“The other cyclists here with the Quebec team also had a good race and will be present [Sunday] in Florennes and on Monday at the race in Hannut.”

Pedal previously reported on this five-man team getting experience in Europe ahead of the racing season in Quebec. Naud had a number of strong finishes, including an eighth place result.
