Canada’s PanAm Road and Track Championship Team Finalized

May 31, 2006 (Ottawa ON) — The CCA is proud to announce the athletes who will represent Canada at the Pan American road and track championships in São Paulo, Brazil, June 4-11.

Track Sprint Men:
– Travis Smith — Calgary AB
– Cam Mackinnon — Calgary AB
– Yannick Morin — Montreal QC
– Matt Barlee — Vancouver BC

Track Endurance Women :
– Mandy Poitras — Langley BC
– Erin Carter — Ste-Anne, MB

Track Endurance Men:
– Svein Tuft — Langley BC
– Zach Bell — Watson Lake YK
– Ryan McKenzie — Calgary AB

Road Women:
– Audrey Lemieux — Alma QC
– Erinne Willock — Victoria BC
– Road race: Lemieux, Willock, Poitras, Carter
– Time trial: Lemieux, Willock

Road Men:
– Brad Fairall — Vancouver BC
– Eric Wohlberg — Levack ON
– Dominique Rollin — Boucherville QC
– Road race: Fairall, Wohlberg, Rollin, Tuft, McKenzie
– Time trial: Wohlberg, Tuft

The team’s objectives are to qualify Canada for as many spots as possible for the 2007 Pan American Games, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 13-29, and to accumulate the maximum number of UCI points to qualify Canada for the upcoming road worlds (Salzburg, Austria, Sep. 19-24, 2006) and track worlds (Palma de Mallorca, Spain, March 29-April 1, 2007).

“Building this team has been difficult because of date conflicts with major road events in North America, for which many athletes have professional commitments,” said CCA High Performance Director Kris Westwood. “However, we were able to build a strong team with a good mix of young and experienced athletes, and I’m confident we will have a successful championship.”

Competition begins with the individual road races June 4 in Indaiatuba and the individual time trials June 6 in Cabreúva. The track competition runs from June 8 to 11 at the Velodromo de Caieiras in São Paulo.
