Canada’s Nyhaug Doubles in Phoenix

release by the CCA

March 19, 2010 – Tory Nyhaug won the junior male class on Saturday and Sunday of the UCI Winter Nationals races in Phoenix, March 6-7. The weekend was one of the hardest UCI races of the year so far, with the who’s who from the international world of BMX was in attendance. On a beautiful Saturday in Phoenix Tory raced from the inside to grab his first win of the season. Sunday’s race was a much different story as the skies opened up and the rain came down. As the rain fell and the track went from wet to slick to muddy the Canadians kept on shining. In the junior men class Tory once again lead wire to wire for an impressive second win of the weekend. Following Tory was follow countrymen Steve Creighton finishing 3rd and Nick Benetti finishing up in 6th. In the Elite men class Jimmy Brown wasn’t going to be out done by his junior teammates. Jimmy rode very impressive all day in the mud. In his semi finally, Jim lead into the first turn before crashing and taking down the rest of the race, he got up and still qualified for the final with a 3rd. When the gate dropped in the final Jim powered down the first straight into a 3rd place finish. This not only marked Jim’s first AA pro/UCI final but his first podium in the US. Way to go Jim and way to go Tory, Steve and Nick!

Unfortunately, three days later on the last day of our training camp at the Chula Vista Olympic training center Jim Brown had a crash on the track and broke his ankle. He will now be sidelined along with Sam Cools (shoulder) for the next team project to Madrid for the BMX SX World Cup on March 26th.
