Canada’s Guillaume Boivin 3rd at Trofeo Karlsberg

June 9, 2007 (Gersheim, Germany) — Guillaume Boivin (EVA/Devinci), riding as part of Canada’s national junior road team, placed third yesterday at Stage 2, 110.5km Homburg-Wittersheim, of the Trofeo Karlsberg Junior Tour (Rundfahrt) June 7-10, in Gersheim, Germany.

Boivin’s team mate, Guillaume Blais-Daufour, helped to set him up by breaking away with 300 metres to the finish. Blais-Dufour was then passed by John Degenkolb of Germany and Peter Sagan of Slovakia. Boivin picked up six bonus points for his third place and six more seconds in climbing, putting him at 1:17 behind the overall leader.

The Trofeo Karlsberg is a four-day, five-stage junior event in Germany. There two races today (Saturday) and the race winds up Sunday with a 134km road race starting and finishing in Niedergailbach.

Other members of Canada’s national junior team racing are Jamie Riggs, Gregory Neal, Spencer Smitheman and Garrett McLeod.
