Canada’s Fincham Career-best 17th in U23 Men’s XCO World Cup in Nove Mesto + PHOTOS

May 26, 2018 (Nove Mesto, CZE) – Team Canada’s reigning U23 champ, Sean Fincham, led the charge again powering to another personal best result at Round 3 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic.

Fincham finished 17th in the U23 Men’s 25 km race that included a Start loop and six laps, He was as high as 13th at one point and gunning for the top 10 but faded at the end. Last weekend he was 21st in Albstadt, Germany and is making steady gains with another career-best result. Fincham was 8th here as a Junior rider at the 2016 MTB Worlds.

Vlad Dascalu (Rou) Brujula Bike Racing Team took the win as he and Filippo Colombo (Sui) BMC Mountainbike Racing Team broke away from an early front group of five riders. Dascalu dropped Colombo on the final lap for the win.

Canada’s Marc Andre Fortier (Pivot-OTE) finished 31st followed by Quinton Disera (Norco Factory) in 35th. Team Canada’s Gunnar Holmgren was 55th, Brody Sanderson (Team Canada) finished 73rd, Felix Belhumeur (Pivot-OTE) was 86th and Raphael Auclair (Pivot-OTE) placed 95th.

Juliette Tetreault (Independant) was the top Canadian placing 29th in the 21.3km U23 Women’s race that began with a start loop and then saw riders complete five laps. Team Canada’s Mackenzie Myatt was 34th, Anne Julie Tremblay (Team Canada) finished 36th and Laurie Arseneault (Independant) was 38th.

Sina Frei (Sui) Ghost Factory battled with her teammate Malene Degn in a final dash to the line for the victory – both had the same finishing time. Italy’s Marika Tovo, who was with the lead duo but could not keep pace on the final lap, claimed third.
