Canada MTB Cup 2007 XC #5 Report and Full Results

July 17, 2007 (Canmore, Alta.) – The 2007 Canada Cup XC Series is history after Saturday’s final event in Canmore, Alta. In both the Elite Men’s and Women’s categories, leaders were overthrown, with Derek Zandstra (ON) 3 Rox Racing/Scott and Amanda Sin (ON) 3 Rox Racing/Scott taking the titles. In the Junior Men’s and Women’s competitions, both Françis Morin (QC) Devinci and Andréanne Pichette (QC) Opus/OGC managed to defend their leads to take home the overall.

In the four-lap Elite Men’s race, it was Max Plaxton (BC) Rocky Mountain/Haywood who took victory on the Canmore Nordic Centre’s fabled Ziggy Gnarly course, finishing only four seconds ahead of Neal Kindree (BC) Kona/Les Gets. Zandstra grabbed third place. With temperatures in the mid-30s, the heat and dust took their toll on many riders.

Calgary’s Mical Dyck (AB) Trek/Terrascape won the Elite Women’s race by more than three minutes over series winner Sin. Youngster Emily Batty (ON) Team Race took the bronze medal position with a solid ride.

Jacob McClelland (ON) Team Ontario won the Junior Men’s competition, blazing through three 7.5km laps in 1:31:29 followed by Morin, two-and-a-half minutes behind. Jeff Clarkson (BC) Avia West/Rocky Mountain took third spot.

Alexandra Gélinas (QC) was the fastest Junior Woman of the day, completing two laps in 1:17:04. Bianca Adolf (BC) Team BC was second, while Stéphanie Lacoursière (QC) Cyclone d’Alma rolled into third place.

Official overall series results were not available when this report was written and will be posted as soon as they are available.
