July 14, 2007 (Canmore, Alta.) — In hot and dusty conditions today Max Plaxton (BC) Rocky Mountain/Haywood and Mical Dyck (AB) Trek/Terrascape won the elite men’s and women’s final round of the Canada MTB Cup 2007 XC #5 in Canmore, Alberta.

In the junior category Alexandra Gélinas (QC) Indépendant won the women’s race while Jacob McClelland (ON) Team Ontario took the men’s event.

The Elite Men completed four 7.3km loops, the Elite Women and Junior Men raced three laps and the Junior Women completed two. The “Ziggy Gnarly” course at Canmore is an old racing classic that was resurrected after years of disuse. Even the infamous “Coal Chutes” were reopened, leaving riders coated in black dust and wearing big grins.

The final Canada MTB Cup 2007 XC series winners were also crowned as Derek Zandstra (ON) 3 Rox Racing/Scott won the elite men’s overall, Amanda Sin (ON) 3 Rox Racing/Scott took the women’s title, Françis Morin (QC) Devinci is the junior overall champ and Andréanne Pichette (QC) Opus/OGC wins the junior women’s title.
