May 19, 2007 (Bromont, QC) — It’s a cool day with a mix of clouds and sun at the Bromont Canada MTB Cup as the Elite/Espoir men’s (6 laps) and Elite women’s (5 laps) races, which began at 12 noon EDT, are underway – the men and women are racing together on a circuit that’s just over 6 kms.

Lap 1
At the end of lap 1 which took about 20 min. it’s Max Plaxton (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) leading followed by Raphaël Gagné (Rocky Mountain-Haywood) in 2nd, Kris Sneddon (Kona/Les Gets) in 3rd, Neal Kindree (Kona/Les Gets) in 4th and Mathieu Toulouse (Maxxis) in 5th.

The women who started a couple of minutes after the men will be coming thru shortly. It’s Marie-Hélène Prémont (Can) Rocky Mountain Haywood leading with rider #401 in second (we’ll have her name shortly, she’s not listed the start list), Catherine Pendrel (Norco) in 3rd, Mical Dyck (Trek-Terrascape) is in 4th, and Amanda Sin (Scott/3 Rox Racing) is in 5th.

Lap 2
Plaxton completed lap 2 in just under 19 min. and has a minute on Gagné at the end of lap 2, followed by Sneddon in 3rd as Toulouse has moved up into 4th with Kindree in 5th.

Prémont has a 1:10 lead over Pendrel in second, (our mistake on rider #401 who is a junior male that was mistaken for a woman rider), Dyck is in 3rd, Sin is 4th and Lea Davidson (USA) Trek/VW is in 5th.

Lap 3 – Men
At the end of lap 3, the 1/2-way point, Plaxton continues to lead with a 1:10 on Gagné in 2nd. Toulouse has now taken over 3rd as Sneddon drops to 4th and Kindree holds on to 5th.

Lap 3 – Women
The women have just completed lap 3 and Prémont has a 1:20 lead over Pendrel in second. Amanda Sin has taken over 3rd as Dyck drops to 4th with Davidson in 5th and Emily Batty (Team RACE) is in 6th closing fast.

Lap 4 – Men
As the men complete lap 4 it’s Plaxton riding smooth and he’s extended his lead to over 2 minutes now. Gagne’s in 2nd but Toulouse is right on his wheel. Sneddon is in 4th and Derek Zandstra (ON, Scott/3 Rox Racing) has taken over 5th spot.

Lap 4 – Women
Prémont has finished lap 4 in first and begins her final lap ahead of Pendrel in 2nd with Sin in 3rd, Dyck in 4th, and we believe Batty is now in 5th.

Lap 5 – Men
The men have finished lap 5 and are on their final lap as well – Plaxton continues with a comfortable lead as Toulouse is now in 2nd, Gagne’s in 3rd, Sneddon holds on to 4th and Zandstra is in 5th
