May 29, 2004 (Mt. Tremblant, Que.) – Frigid winds greeted racers this
morning and continued to whip across the course throughout the day, causing frustrating headwinds. The course followed the usual Tremblant tradition
and was slick and slimy, making it necessary for most competitors to run
much of the technical singletrack. Andrew Kyle (Sugoi), the second-place
finisher in the elite men’s race, however, said he rode everything on his
dual suspension Rocky Mountain decked out with fat, knobby tires.

The talk of the day, however, was the continued domination of the winners
of last weekend’s Canada Cup in Bromont, Que. Roddi Lega (United Cyle),
Karen DeWolfe (Cannondale), Raphael Gagné (La Vie Sportive) and Emily Batty
(Bay Cycle/3 Rox) all repeated their victories in the elite men’s , elite
women’s , junior men’s and junior women’s races, respectively.

In the elite men’s competition, Lega was one minute, 19 seconds faster than
Kyle. Lega holds the Canada Cup leader’s jersey after two events. Andrew
Watson (Gears Racing) was third.

DeWolfe took six minutes, 38 seconds out of second-place finisher,
Catharine Pendrel (Oak Bay Bikes) in the women’s elite event. Mical Dyck
(Terrascape Racing) finished third.

In the junior men’s race, Jonathan Boulanger (Périgny/CIBC) cruised into
second behind Gagné. Mark Batty (Bay Cycle/3 Rox) rolled over the line
third. Batty won the junior women’s race by a mere 35 seconds over Kylie
Case. Olivia Gagné (La Vie Sportive) finished third, over five minutes back.
