June 12, 2006 (Mont Ste-Anne, Que.) – Australian downhill superstar Nathan Rennie (AUS, Santa Cruz Syndicate) descended upon Mont Ste-Anne, Que. to get a head start on the rest of the world’s elite riders that will converge at Mont Ste-Anne’s mountain resort on Saturday, June 24 for round #4 of the World Cup DH/4X.
Rennie, currently fourth in the World Cup standings, was the only rider to slip and slide down the muddy 1.6-kilometre course in under three minutes. Charles-Alexandre Dube (QC, Giant), who had the best Canadian result at the 2005 DH World Cup last year, finished second, over six seconds back. Eric Goss (NB, Giant) cruised into third and took over the series lead from Luke Kitzanuk (QC, Giant). Kitzanuk is in second overall, followed by Dominick Menard (QC, Devinci-Daredevil).
In the women’s event, National Champion Adrienne Millar (BC, Devinci-Daredevil) took her third consecutive Canada Cup win in a time of 3:58.45. Sheila Morris (ON, Race-Momentum Cycle) rolled into second on the slick course, while Marie-Eve Marcotte (QC, Independent) placed third. Millar continues to lead the series with 600 points, followed by Morris with 485 points and Genevieve Gagnon (QC, Gravitesse) with 400 points.
Hans Lambert (QC, DH Racer-Ironhorse) won the junior men’s event with a time that put him in fifth in the elite men’s competition. Lee Boeyen (QC, Privateer Racing) was second and Dan Csokonay (BC, Norco) finished third.
Marie-Pier Alix (QC, Spin Sport inc.) was the sole junior-aged woman racing, therefore winning the event when she finished in a time of 4:55.83.
