May 24, 2004 (Bromont, Que.) – Birthday girl Danika Schroeter (Giant) got
the perfect gift today: a Canada Cup victory! Hearing people singing Happy
Birthday to her during her run was part of the reason she had such good
rhythm all the way down, she said. The 25-year-old also commented the
course was dry and tacky, making it possible to really let it go and rail
through the corners. Schroeter’s lead was a significant 30 seconds over
second-place Dawn Bourque (Rhino). Jenelle Cassidy (Cove Bikes/Sombrio) was
third, 31 seconds back from Schroeter.

Times were tight in the men’s race despite a relatively long course, which
was expected to spread riders out. Kwanah Sioui (DHracer.com) nabbed the
top podium spot by a hair. He was only three hundredths of a second faster
than Geoff Pendrel (Devinci). Hugo Donais (Norco Factory Team) placed
third, just 11 hundredths of a second back from Sioui.

In the men’s junior event Justin Brown (Primary) threw down a smoking run
of 4:46.08, which put him in first place, six seconds faster than Guillaume
Soucy-Alarie (Privateer Racing). Samuel Lagrance (Independent) was hot on
Soucy-Alarie’s tail, only a second back. He took third.
