Cam Evans Interview

April 21, 2008 – Pedal caught up with Cam Evans (Symmetrics) just before he headed off to the Tour of Georgia which began today. With a list of palmares that includes a stage win at Altoona, Espoir National Road title, Elite National Road title, and recently upsetting the bad-boys of Rock Racing at the San Dimas stage race it’s easy to forget that Evans is only 24. Next up is the Tour de Georgia and this will be the first time Symmetrics has competed at this race since 2005.

What are your goals for Georgia and what are the team’s goals?
Cam Evans: For the most part we will try and be aggressive and hope that an opportunity presents itself to go for a stage win.

How long have you been racing for?
CE: I have been racing since I was 16 so almost 8 years now.

Most memorable race?
CE: Hmmm… good question.

Is San Dimas your biggest win to date? How does it feel like to upset a guy that has won a jersey at the Tour de France?
CE: It was a nice victory for sure but I also had some luck on my side that day

You’ve had to overcome some nasty injuries in your career – a broken collarbone at junior track worlds, breaking your elbow and wrist on a winter ride, and shattering your knee cap off a curb in Australia – and overcome them all. What has been the key to overcoming these setbacks?
CE: I think biggest thing has just been a lot of perseverance and a lot of hard work.

Much has been written recently about Symmetrics’ troubles but we understand that team will ride a full season in 2008, through October. What are you goals for this year, and what has riding for the S-Team meant to you?
CE: Symmetrics has been a great program to be involved with. I would count everyone on the team not only a team mate but also as a friend.

What are your goals for future?
CE: At some point I would love to give racing in Europe a go.

Can you share with the readers the secret hair product responsible for your impeccable faux-hawk?
CE: That’s one secret I can’t share.

Thanks a lot Cam, and rip it up in Georgia!
CE: Thanks
