Call For Marshalls and Volunteers – Kids of Steel Triathlon

May 2, 2007 – Greetings Enthusiastic Cycling Folks! As many of you know, the County is hosting a KIDS OF STEEL triathlon again this year, Sunday, June 3. At the Bloomfield Bicycle Company we are throwing ourselves behind this great event. It is such a terrific opportunity for kids from six through sixteen to get out and get active in a positive and exciting way.

As many of you know, last year the PEFAC (RecPlex to those of us who can’t change it’s name in our head!) became the host to the Belleville Kids of Steel when the Sir James Whitney pool was drained weeks before the event. And when our community pulled together and pulled it off with flying colours, well folks decided that there was no reason that we couldn’t have one here in the County the next year! (which is right now!!)

We’ll be doing FREE bike inspections at the shop for three weeks before the event as well as pre-event check-ins at the event and Rick is serving as the Bike Captain for the whole shindig! But we’ll also need thirty to forty road marshall volunteers on SATURDAY, JUNE 3RD from 7AM through 1PM. The job is pretty simple and VERY REWARDING. All you’ll need is a big smile, maybe some sunscreen and a hat and water and snacks to get you through the grueling six hour shift (tee hee). Road Marshals will be stationed around the course (which travels along Sandy Hook Rd, Lake Street and Upper Lake Street). Folks need to be at least 18 years old to fill these positions but no other qualifications are required! Volunteers are provided with a FREE LUNCH, a TSHIRT and they qualify for all the draw prizes. But the best reward is seeing the smiling faces and the fun cycling display as all the kids roll by!

If you are interested please drop us an email or drop by the shop to fill out your Volunteer Waiver and we’ll hook you up with an assignment.

Thanks in advance for your time, your efforts and your enthusiasm. We’re building healthy, happy cyclists! (and runners and swimmers, too!!)

Looking forward to hearing from y’all over the next weeks. kt and Rick and Erynn at the BBC.
