July 4, 2004 (Calgary, Alta.) — The Calgary World Cup downhill course at Canada Olympic Park was a tough one because or its brevity – it dropped a mere 121 metres over a distance of 1.3 kilometres. “You have to keep it pinned the whole way down,” said Canada’s Deb MacKillop (Evolution Bikes). Heavy rains on Saturday followed by a constant cold rain throughout the morning didn’t help course conditions. But France’s Celine Gros (Team Morzine Avoriaz) didn’t let the soggy greyness get her down. After setting the top women’s time in the qualifier, she did it again in the final for the win. One of France’s other fast women, Sabrina Jonnier (Intense) stopped the clock in second place, 1.37 seconds down from Gros. Tracy Moseley (GBR, Kona Clarks/Les Gets) got her hands on the bronze medal. Canada’s Danika Schroeter (Evolution Bikes) scored the best Canadian result – an impressive seventh place.
