Calabogie Rocks the House Party, O-Cup DH # 3

July 4, 2005 – Well another warm weekend and another sweet event. Temperatures didn’t stand a chance with Calabogie Lake less than 400m away. Then of course there were the beer tents, beach volleyball courts, fire pit jumping contest (38ft won), huffy bike toss contest and oh yeah, the race!

The course was fast, steep and rock strewn, with some rock drops and of camber thrown in for kicks. Many people learned the hard way that single ply tires don’t work and several rims attested to the geology of the area.

The Junior Expert field saw the first two riders to break the two-min mark, Derek Cowell took 1st with a blazing 1:57.260, Team Dropmachine’s Chris Dufault was the other sub 2min culprit at 1:59.526 taking second place and Bran Serneels was third at 2:01.264

In the women’s field wiley vet Sheila Morris laid the smack down with an 11 second win over second place finish Caroline Milot Laferté, Antonia Gawel snatched third!

1. Sheila Morris, Barrie 2:20.762
2. Caroline Milot Laferté — Québec 2:31.036
3. Antonia Gawel,Toronto 2:36.647

In the elite men’s field, it came down to some of the countries best, Charles Alexandre Dube who was Canada’s top DH finisher at the recent Mont Ste Anne World Cup and Peter McLean who was 4th at the MSA Canadian Nationals. These two finished accordingly one, two with Zach Tatem only 3 seconds behind in 3rd

1. Charles Alexandre Dube Quebec 1:52.074
2. Peter McLean, Sweet Pete`s, Weston 1:53.435
3. Zachary Tatem, Sports Swap Racing,Toronto 1:56.118
