April 21, 2007 – We’ve heard about the Burnaby Velodrome’s efforts to increase the racing experiences and opportunities for women and contacted the Glenn Barr, the Burnaby Velodrome’s Director of Communications, to find out more about their exciting new racing series, clinics etc. for women.
“As part of trying to grow the attractiveness of the velodrome, the BVC has been been focusing on offering ‘women-only’ events and races, including a women’s -only Learn to Ride clinic series, and women’s -only races at both the Six Day and now the Summer Challenge,” Barr told us.
“We have two levels of women’s -only races. The first is for novices and we have around 8-12 riders at this level. The second level is for experienced/elite women,” he continued.
“Typically, both levels will race 3-5 races. For the novice level, we also have a debriefing session after each race, to talk with the riders and answer any questions they might have,” he added.
