Build-a-Bike Event!

For more than 30 British Columbia high school students, April 12 was far
from their usual academic routine.

They gathered at Gibsons Elementary
School to take part in the annual Sprockids Coastrider Bike Building Event.
Joining the teens for the event were reps from the three local bike shops,
as well as officials from Norco, RaceFace, Outdoor Gear Canada, Steed
Cycles, nsmb.com, and Cycling BC.

As the event name implies, students had to build bikes during the day. They
arrived at school that day to discover six tables filled with parts by
SRAM, RaceFace, Manitou, TruVativ, Outdoor Gear Canada, Hayes, Chris King,
Wilderness Trail Bikes, and Sun/Ringle, as well as frames from Norco and
Santa Cruz. Park Tools and FinishLine lubricants were added to complete the
more than 20 newly created bikes.

Those involved in the event also had the chance to hit the trails in the
afternoon, and were outfitted with gear supplied by Bell helmets, Pearl
Izumi clothing, Ryders and Spy eyeware. The event was organized by the
local Coastrider bike club.
