Bruno Langlois Hit by Car at US Open

April 12, 2007 – Bruno Langlois (EVA/Devinci) was hit by an automobile on Saturday while at the US Open in Virginia reports the Journal de Quebec. A photo with the story showed Langlois with a cast and crutches at his family home in Rimouski, QC.

The weather was very cold on Saturday (snow delayed the start by 1.5 hours) and most of the field, including Langlois, abandoned before completing the 179km event. Langlois decided to pedal back to his hotel in the company of a Mexican cyclist when a car struck them from behind, throwing Langlois into a ditch. Langlois’ bike was a write-off and the Mexican was slightly injured. Witnesses suggested that the car driver was inebriated. It took the ambulance 45 minutes to arrive at the scene and Langlois became hypothermic.

After being treated in Richmond, Virginia, Langlois was brought back to Quebec by his coach, Alexandre Lavallée. The nature of his injuries is not completely clear, but involve his left calf. No cycling will be possible until his calf recovers. Legal proceedings will likely be brought against the car driver.
