A total of 708 riders from around the globe have already confirmed their presence at this C1 level international MTB competition, not counting the 300-500 riders that usually register on-site.
Marie-Hélène Prémont (Rocky Mountain), Olympic silver medalist and medal hopeful for Beijing, has already indicated she will be present, as well as several other well-known riders such as Jacqueline Mourao of Brazil and Mathieu Toulouse (Maxxis), a Quebec rider well known on the international circuit. All will be present to compete for top honours at one of the biggest mountain bike events in North America.
Saturday May 17: the top cross country riders will be in Bromont
Devinci Canada MTB Cup/Quebec Cup cross country events, presented by Michelin, will take place on Saturday, May 17. Some of the top riders in North America will be present, including Prémont of Château Richer, silver medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Quebec’s Raphael Gagné, 2007 U23 Vice National Champion and member of the Canadian National Team, as well as George Edward Duquette of Bromont.
The racing begins at 9:00 am with the under 15-year-old riders, followed by the Sport categories at 10:00 am. The Pro Elite men and women race at noon, and the day will end with the Expert categories at 2:30 pm.
Sunday May 18th: Downhill events on the World Cup course
On Sunday at noon the downhill kamikazes take the Ski Bromont course by storm at crazy speeds during the Canada Cup downhill presented by Race Face. This event involves individual timed runs with participants attempting to get from top to bottom as quickly as possible down a specially prepared, gnarly course.
New for 2008
New this year the event will be presented, for the first time, on the Versant du Lac slopes of Ski Bromont, which will also be the site of the 2008 Bromont Nissan UCI World Cup, to be held from August 1-3rd. Two new courses have been prepared, and the organizers, the Mondial du Vélo.com, promise a great race for both events.
These riders will be staging great performances all week end as they begin their 2008 MTB season, definitely a sight to see. Also not to be missed, the Nissan UCI World Cup in August, to be run at the same site as this week end’s events.
