May 10, 2007 (Rochester, NY) – Rochester road racing is once again opening its arms to Canadians as it hosts the Bristol Road Race this Saturday, May 12 in the Fingerlakes Region of New York state.
With the race located about an hour and a half away from the Rainbow Bridge US/Canada border, organizer Jonathan Howard said typically about 25% of the race entrants each year are Canadians.
The race costs $24 in advance or $30 on the day of regardless of the division, and Canadian money is taken at par. There are divisions ranging from Cat 5 (beginner) up to Pro 1-2 with more than $3,000 US in prize money up for grabs in the various divisions.
The course itself is a 27.2-km (17-mile) hilly loop around a ski area near Victor, New York.
Race distances are two laps for Cat 5 men and Cat 4 women; three laps for Cat 1-3 women, Cat 4 men, and masters riders; and four laps for 1-2 and Cat 3 men.
