Statistics Canada data (2002) shows that Canada's obesity epidemic and inactivity levels are spreading even though a growing number of people say they are physically active.
– Currently, twenty-five per cent of Canadian children are considered obese, and that number is on the rise.
– During the six years from 1994-95 to 2000-01, the proportion of obese Canadian adults rose to 15 per cent from 13 per cent of the population.
– The leading causes of obesity, as documented by Stats Canada, are physical inactivity and poor nutrition.
SWEAT is perfectly positioned to promote physical fitness and healthy nutritional choices among amateur, recreational and armchair athletes in Canada.
Hosted by Julie Zwillich, formerly of TVOKIDS, each of the 13 half hour episodes of SWEAT feature a different outdoor sport.
