Bonham & Co. Ontario Cup #6

September 14, 2004 – The second last event on the Bonham & Co. Ontario Cup 2004 calendar, Mansfield Outdoor Center played host to a stellar weekend of mountain bike racing. The 24 km x-country course was an interesting twist to the norm for the Ontario Cup with lots of single track and an excruciating final 6 km of ups and downs following the ridges of Mansfield.

Saturday’s short track racing saw the series leader Greg Reain of Gears Racing.com break off the front with his team mate Jesse Jakomait. Working together they shattered the field and Greg Reain showed his speed with the win, Jesse in second and Tim Carleton, Sports Swap in third. Emily Batty of Bay Cycle took an early lead in the women’s short track, but suffered a mechanical and was overtaken by Amanda Sin of Schwalbe Cycling Club. Batty eventually fixed her chain and took second followed by Sue Trimble of Gears Racing.com.

Sunday’s second lap 48 km Elite Men’s and Women’s event would test the might of some of Canada’s best mountain bike riders. Greg Reain and Jesse Jakomait showed they were the class of the field as they took an early lead and never looked back. Jakomait was clearly having a better day as he rode Reain off his wheel on the 2nd lap to take the win. A changing of the guard is in the air as Andrew Erb from Jaw Racing Team showed the ride of his life to take 3rd spot on the podium just behind Reain.

She’s not old enough to race Junior at the World Championships, but the phenomenal Emily Batty easily took the win in the Elite Women’s division! Amanda Sin had another great ride to take second followed by Sue Trimble.

A special thanks to Mark Bonham of Bonham & Co. for his generous title sponsorship support of the series as well as our venue host Mansfield Outdoor Center. We’d also like to thank all the supporting sponsors, volunteers, ski patrol, OCA and staff who are continuing to grow the Bonham & Co. Ontario Cup Series.

The Ontario Championships will take place September 25 & 26 at Hardwood Hills with a complimentary BBQ supplied by our title sponsor Mark Bonham.
