BMX Supercross Hits Roc d’Azur

October 8, 2007 – The final round of the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup is kicking off this weekend 11-12 October at Roc d’Azur Fréjus (France). Being held at Roc d’Azur, the biggest mountain bike festival in Europe, over 10’000 spectators is expected to watch the action on the demanding BMX Supercross track.

The Roc d’Azur track has been modified from last year, promising great racing on a very demanding track. Many of the track features are similar to the Olympic track, giving riders valuable input for next year. Only for the 2nd time around, the women will race on the big 8 meter high start ramp and negotiating a BMX Supercross track.

Being one of the most important events to score valuable points towards the qualification for the Olympic Games, the finals will see a record number of participants with over 110 Men and 40 Women from 20 countries.

In Elite Men, Robert De Wilde (NED) sits fairly comfortable in the overall lead in the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. “Afro-Bob” has showed great consistency with three 2nd place finishes. Could he grab his first win and the overall title? Runner-up in the overall ranking, Mike Day (USA) has a potential chance taking it away from De Wilde if he wins and De Wilde finishes worse than 8th in the semi-finals. Only time will tell.

With the World Champion and overall BMX Supercross World Cup leader, Shanaze Reade (GBR) opting to sit out the final round, the win and the overall title is anyone’s to win. Ann-Caroline Chausson (FRA) has a great opportunity (currently in 2nd place), racing in front of the home-crowd.
