December 22, 2005 – BMX Racing was just accepted into the Ontario Summer Games, Ottawa Aug 9-13, 2006.

The Ontario Summer Games is like the Olympics for kids – Opening Ceremonies, closing ceremonies medals and award ceremonies – this is a big deal!

What does this mean? It means we will send 5 athletes from each age group 12-16 from each track (region) for a total of 125 athletes.

Cost per athlete is still being determined. It will be mainly hotel and accommodation costs (you would have to be there 2 or 3 days). The Ottawa track is currently working on deals at hotels in the area. The OCA will assist in covering some of the expenses. If this is a success there will be no cost or a minimal cost for 2008 Summer Games, it is like we are a demonstration sport, but fully medalled.

Athlete selection process is still in the works. Expert then Intermediate will get priority as we hope to go to Canada Summer Games in 2009.

I will be working on the whole process for qualification etc. over the Christmas break.
