February 5, 2007 – For the growth of BMX in Quebec, to be part of the Quebec Games is a must. Well we are proud to announce that it is official now: BMX will be part of the 2010 Quebec Games.
Montreal, February 1st 2007 – Making its Olympic debut in 2008, we felt it was imperative that BMX be included in the Quebec Provincial Games program in order to assure the best possible growth for this discipline. It is now official: BMX will make its fist appearance at these Games in 2010! Part of the extreme sports family, BMX races are a very spectacular, aimed to all family members, and require high levels of ability and speed. We are convinced that the presence of BMX at the Quebec Games will be a success story.
Since November 2005, the FQSC has put a lot of energy in BMX. Through High Performance funding and with the hiring of a BMX Technical director, we have been able over the last year to put develop the sport in various regions, edit a construction guide to build tracks, and build some new tracks. We are now ready to move to the next step.
The Quebec Games are an exceptional tool for development. They have been the first important step in many athletes’ careers. And if it isn’t for many athletes with the intent of being top level athletes, it has been for most young kids a great way to promote physical activities and good life style. It is an incredible tool that we have to use properly to make a difference.
At the 2010 Quebec Games, you will be able to witness competitions for boys and girls from 11 to 13years old, coming from all 19 regions of Quebec. But until then, there is still a lot of work to do. We have to make sure that all regions are developing the sport and therefore we are going to need everyone’s cooperation.
The FQSC has a lot of resources that can answer your questions and help you develop your region. Don’t hesitate to contact us at bmx@fqsc.net or (514) 252-3071 #3471.
